A moderately strong earthquake has shaken Lima but no damage or injuries have been reported.

The 5.8-magnitude quake was struck about 3:07 local time (20:07 GMT) and was centered about 20 miles south of the Peruvian capital at a depth of 40 miles. That's according to Peru's National Geophysics Institute.

The quake struck in two jolts, the first of longer duration, and some office workers in Lima filed out of buildings into the street.
