Greek authorities have requested international help to identify a four-year-old girl found living in a Gypsy camp with a couple whom they have arrested and charged with abducting her.

A police statement says the child was found Wednesday near Farsala in central Greece during a nationwide crackdown on illegal activities by Roma, also known as Gypsies.

The blonde, pale-skinned girl bore no resemblance to the Greek couple, who police said offered conflicting accounts — that she was found in a blanket or was handed to them by strangers. Police said Friday that DNA testing proved she was not related to the couple.

Police also said the couple fraudulently claimed to have 14 children.

Greece has notified Interpol and international groups for missing children. The girl is in a charity's care.
