Nigerian military raid bomb factory of Islamic militants on outskirts of northern Kano city

Nigeria's military say they raided a bomb factory where Islamic extremists were plotting attacks on the northern city of Kano as Muslims prepare to celebrate the Eid al-Adha holiday next week.

Brig. General Ilyasu Abba told reporters one suspect was killed Wednesday in raids on two hideouts on the outskirts of Kano, but others escaped.

Suspected Islamic militants are blamed for a July 29 attack in which multiple explosions hit a Christian entertainment area of mainly Muslim Kano. At least 27 people were killed there among hundreds of victims of an ongoing Islamic uprising which is concentrated in northeastern Nigeria.

Ilyasu said his troops recovered a primed suicide backpack, AK-47 assault rifles and ammunition, bows and arrows and the makings of improvised explosive devices including detonators and remote control devices.
