A 20-year-old Indian college student says she was held captive and repeatedly raped for 17 months after she drank spiked juice from a dining hall.

The girl, whose identity has not been revealed, said she was given fruit juice laced with sedatives at the TRR College of Technology in Hyderabad on April 3, 2012. She was then sexually assaulted inside various homes throughout the city and had to undergo an abortion once, police sources told the Times of India.

She escaped from one house on Sept. 4 after her alleged captor, 33-year-old Satyaprakash Singh, was drunk and left the front door open, Gulf News reports.

Singh was arrested the next day and charged with the sexual assaults, as well as kidnapping and wrongful confinement, among other charges.

Students of the school protested outside the Santoshnagar police station on Monday, but were taken into custody as authorities are trying to crack down on public demonstrations against the case, Gulf News reports.

Police investigations are ongoing and the girl will appear before a court next Monday to speak about the case, the Times of India reports.
