Federal officials reportedly nabbed a 35-year-old Mexican national at a New Mexico border crossing this week sprawled atop a truckload of red chili peppers.
The incident occurred Thursday at the Columbus, N.M., border crossing, according to the El Paso Times.
"There was a bottle of tequila next to him and he appeared to be highly intoxicated," Robert Reza, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency's Columbus Port Director, told the newspaper.
The unidentified man, who was arrested and will be returned to Mexico, reportedly told immigration officials he had climbed into the proverbial pot of peppers with the hope of hitching a ride to Chicago.
Following the discovery, officials allowed the shipment to continue to its original destination.
