A young Brazilian boy has people scratching their heads after he allegedly killed four of his family members, went to school, then returned home to commit suicide.
Brazilian police said they believe 13-year-old Marcelo Pesseghini shot both his parents, his grandmother and his great-aunt on Sunday night at their home in the state of São Paulo.
The boy then allegedly drove his mother’s car to school. Security cameras around the area caught the car arriving near the school at 1:15 a.m. on Monday morning. At 6:30 a.m., a person that looks like Marcelo Pesseghini gets out of the car, puts on a backpack and walks in direction of the school.
A friend’s father offered to drive him back home from school, and told the police that Marcelo said not to ring the doorbell at his house so as not to wake up his dad.
The boy then went into his house and shot himself in the left temple, according to police who found him with the gun in his left hand.
Both of the boy’s parents, Luís and Andreia Pesseghini, worked in the Brazilian police force. The gun, a .40-caliber pistol, was reportedly police-issued to Marcelo’s mother.
According to O Globo, a Brazilian newspaper, the 13-year-old recently changed his Facebook profile picture to a character from the violent videogame “Assassin’s Creed.” He also was allegedly a big fan of and posted to Facebook about “Amityville Horror,” a book and movie inspired by a true story in which Ronald DeFeo Jr. killed his parents and four siblings in their Amityville, New York home, then calmly went to work.
Itagiba Franco, a man on the civilian police force in São Paulo, said in a press conference that a friend of Marcelo’s said the alleged murderer “always told me he wanted to become a hired killer.” Marcelo also had an extensive toy gun collection.
“His dream was to be a police officer when he grew up, he always said that,” Marcelo’s great-uncle told Mais Você, a Brazilian news program. “He was his father’s pride, and his father was his pride. We don’t believe that a child could be capable of killing five people.”
Each of the family members were discovered in their beds with one shot to the head, apparently from the .40-caliber weapon, with the exception of Andreia, who was found kneeling. Marcelo and his parents were found in one house, and the other two women, Benedita de Oliveira Bovo and Bernadete Oliveira da Silva, were found in another house on the same property.
There has been some speculation that the multiple homicide was a set-up, however. According to Col Wagner Dimas Pereira, commander of the police battalion that Marcelo’s mother worked in, Andreia had recently revealed that fellow officers were allegedly stealing money out of bank cash machines.
The police are investigating the possibility that the five murders were committed by criminal cops who were trying to get revenge on Andreia.
