UN experts will depart 'within days' for Syria to investigate alleged chemical weapons use

The U.N. says chemical weapons experts are gathering in The Hague, Netherlands, and will depart "within days" for Syria to investigate three allegations of alleged chemical weapons use.

U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said Thursday that Sweden's Ake Sellstrom will lead a team of about 10 experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the World Health Organization.

Nesirky announced Wednesday that the experts will investigate three alleged incidents of chemical weapons use following an "understanding" reached between the U.N. and the Syrian regime.

The team will visit the village of Khan al Assal near Aleppo, where the government and rebels blame each other for a March 19 attack. Nesirky said the other two locations "are being kept confidential as a safety and security precaution."
