Captain Deon Fourie scored both Western Stormers' tries as they triumphed 24-12 against Southern Kings in a fiery Super 15 clash Saturday.

Flanker Fourie was credited with the touch down after the visiting pack pushed their opponents over the try-line a minute before half-time at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to create an 11-9 interval advantage.

And he struck again on 77 minutes by evading one tackler after another in a 20-metre journey to the line that produced the try that sealed success for 2010 runners-up Stormers in the South African derby.

Kings tight-head prop Grant Kemp was sin-binned during the first half and several players from both sides were lucky not to join him as they literally took the law into their own hands.

Pushing hands into the face of an opponent should result in a yellow card at least, but unimpressive South African referee Lourens van der Merwe chose to ignore such incidents in Indian Ocean city Port Elizabeth.

"It was a battle out there with no quarter asked or given," admitted weary Kings loose-head prop Schalk Ferreira after a match where there was nothing at stake except pride.

Kings, promoted to the Super 15 this season in place of bottom 2012 side Golden Lions from Johannesburg, dropped to the bottom of the table before the kick-off when Otago Highlanders beat Wellington Hurricanes in New Zealand.

Stormers' slim chances of snatching a play-offs place also disappeared before the match began when fellow South Africans Central Cheetahs defeated New Zealand visitors Auckland Blues to secure the sixth and final slot.

Apart from the tenacity displayed by Fourie for his tries -- he also scored one in a big win over the Cheetahs last weekend -- there was little to remember from this Cape derby.

Fly-half Elton Jantjies, on loan to the Stormers from the Lions, made the most of a rare chance to demonstrate his goal-kicking skills, by succeeding with three penalties and a conversion.

His first penalty came while regular kicker Joe Pietersen was being treated for an injury, and the full-back had to retire later after kicking a penalty and seeing another effort rebound off the far post.

All the Kings' points came from the boot of fly-half Demetri Catrakilis, who slotted four penalties and was unlucky when another attempt, from long range, struck a post and fell back into play.
