Police were carrying out house-to-house inquiries on Thursday after an adult and child were found dead at a property in Merthyr Tydfil.

Officers made the discovery after being called to an address in the village of Troedyrhiw at 4.20pm on Wednesday.

South Wales Police cordoned off the area before quizzing residents from neighbouring properties, according to a brief statement.

"It's very sad news and I'm struggling to comprehend it," said local councillor Gareth Lewis.

He described Troedyrhiw as a traditional valleys community.

"They will be very much in shock about this," he added.
