British child-killer Ian Brady fails to win transfer from psychiatric hospital to prison

British child-murderer Ian Brady has failed to convince a court that he is not insane and should be transferred from a high-security psychiatric hospital to prison.

Brady and his late girlfriend Myra Hindley, known as the "moors murderers," killed five children in the 1960s, burying the bodies on moorland in northwest England.

This week, he asked a mental health tribunal to rule that he was not insane.

In hours of rambling testimony, the 75-year-old Brady claimed he had used method acting to fake mental illness and called his crimes part of an "existential experience."

A panel led by Judge Robert Atherton ruled Friday that Brady was mentally ill and should remain hospitalized "for his health and safety and for the protection of other persons."
