HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwe's prime minister says he won't agree to hold crucial elections on a date set by a court for end of July.
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said Wednesday that President Robert Mugabe cannot decide on an election date without the consent of other leaders in the power-sharing government.
Mugabe was forced by regional leaders to form a coalition government with former opposition leader Tsvangirai after violent and disputed elections in 2008.
The Constitutional Court in May ordered Mugabe to hold polls by July 31, arguing that they should be linked to the dissolution of the parliament at the end of its current five-year term on June 29.
Mugabe has said he will obey the ruling.
Tsvangirai said Mugabe will be committing political "suicide" if he decides to go it alone.
