The British ambassador to Algeria says oil and gas giant BP is committed to the country despite delaying two projects after the January terrorist attack on a gas installation that left 37 hostages and 29 militants dead.

The ambassador, Martyn Roper, said there had been "misunderstandings" after the BP chief executive, Bob Dudley, said in early May that the projects in In Amenas and In Salah would be pushed back.

Roper says "BP will stay in Algeria. It is very engaged and will pursue these projects."

Dudley also has said the company will continue energy exploration activities in Algeria.
