The lawyer of a Tunisian woman who gained notoriety for posting online topless pictures of herself as a protest says she faces six months in prison for carrying a dangerous object.

Mokhtar Jannene said Friday his client Amina Tyler has been charged with possessing a pen-sized personal protection device containing tear gas or pepper spray.

Tyler was arrested after she tried to hold a protest for the rights of women Sunday in the religious center of Kairouane where ultraconservative Muslims had planned to hold a conference.

Witnesses said she scrawled FEMEN, the name of a Ukrainian feminist group that uses nudity in protests, on the wall of a cemetery near the main mosque.

She will appear in court Thursday.
