Authorities in northern Mexico say three police officers working for Interpol in Mexico and a federal investigator have been missing since Monday.

Chihuahua state Gov. Cesar Duarte says state and federal police are searching for the four men, all Mexican citizens.

The officers were last seen in Chihuahua city, where they were assigned to special operations. Authorities say they disappeared while driving from Chihuahua city to Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas.

Duarte didn't offer a motive in the disappearances or any other details Wednesday, but hundreds of people have gone missing in Chihuahua state, where drug gangs have been fighting a turf battle for several years.
