A group of Chinese hackers accused of being linked to the country’s military may now be back in action after lying low for months.
The hacking group, suspected of attacks on The New York Times that began near the end of 2012, operates out of a Chinese military building in Shanghai, according to American computer security company Mandiant. The New York Times believes it was targeted for publishing stories about Chinese officials.
David Garfield, the managing director of cyber security at Detica, a BAE Systems subsidiary, told Sky News that its researchers have found a new piece of malicious software that appears to be written by the group.
"The activity we have detected indicates that the espionage group was lying low until the attention around their activities died down, before getting back to 'business-as-usual'” he said.
China’s government has not responded to the claims, Sky News reports.
