Bodies found in Cancun appear to be linked to drug dealing, authorities say

Authorities in Mexico say the killings of five men and two women in the resort town of Cancun appear to be linked to the drug trade.

Police found the bodies at a house in a low-income neighborhood on Sunday, away from the city’s tourist hotspots. The director of the Quintana Roo state detective agency said the victims apparently died of asphyxiation, as their hands, heads and feet were bound together with packing tape, the Associated Press reports..

"It looks like the victims were independent drug dealers without any links to any specific cartel," Juan Ignacio Hernandez, a deputy attorney general of Quintana Roo state, told Reuters.

Seven men were announced as suspects in the killings.

In an unrelated incident, police on Sunday found the body of another man in Cancun who had been bound and gagged, according to Reuters. And in March, six people were shot dead by two men in a bar on the outskirts of Cancun.
