Tunisian state media says the brother-in-law of the nation's deposed dictator has died in the hospital from a brain ailment.
The TAP news agency on Friday quoted prison chief Habib Sbouli as saying that Moncef Trabelsi died Thursday night at the neurological hospital where he's been since transferring there from prison on March 18.
Trabelsi, 68, was the brother of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's wife Leila. He was one of many members of the first lady's family who were convicted of embezzlement and squandering state funds after Ben Ali was overthrown in January 2011.
The much-despised Trabelsi family had cemented vast control over the North African nation's economy, with stakes in everything from tourist hotels to banks, car dealerships and radio and television stations.
