DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf pledges to return home this month from self-imposed exile to run in parliamentary elections,
Musharraf set his return date as March 24. He faces arrest in connection with the killing of an ex-prime minister.
Supporters of Musharraf and his All Pakistan Muslim League began arriving Wednesday in Dubai, where Musharraf has lived since stepping down in 2008, according to party official Khurrum Harris. About 250 backers are set to accompany Musharraf back to Pakistan.
Musharraf said he would lead his party in elections this spring.
Musharraf took power in Pakistan in a 1999 coup. He faces charges of conspiring to assassinate ex-premier Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in 2007. Harris called the charges "baseless" and said Musharraf was ready to face them in court.
