A new report says Cuba has made great strides in gender equality but still has work to do in eradicating macho attitudes and supporting opportunities for women in business and leadership.
The Washington-based Center for Democracy in the Americas also warned that economic difficulties and a drive to restructure Cuba's socialist model could threaten the island's advances in gender equality.
It says mass layoffs of government workers could affect women the most.
Sarah Stephens is the group's executive director. She said Thursday that just like anywhere else, women, families and children are often most vulnerable to times of crisis.
