BERLIN – Swiss police say one of the people killed in a shooting at a wood-processing company was a well-known athlete in a traditional Swiss sport.
Lucerne police spokesman Urs Wigger said Thursday that 26-year-old Benno Studer was one of two people killed Wednesday by an assailant in a shooting that wounded seven others.
Studer was a wrestler in the traditional sport of Schwingen, also known as Swiss wrestling — considered one of the country's national sports.
The shooter, identified as a 42-year-old Swiss man, also died in the attack, but Wigger said he could not confirm media reports that he killed himself.
According to Swiss reports the attacker was born in Kosovo, and authorities there confirm they have been in touch with their Swiss counterparts on the case.
