The head of the French wholesaler at the center of a storm over the sale in Europe of horsemeat labeled as beef says he has proof his company is innocent.
The chief of Spanghero told RTL radio on Friday that his company in southern France received a lot of horsemeat along with beef, but "didn't touch" it.
Barthelemy Aguerre provided no details and didn't specify whether he reported the horsemeat delivery, saying only, "I will prove my innocence."
French Consumer Affairs Minister Benoit Hamon said Thursday that it appeared fraudulent meat sales, apparently over several months, reached across 13 countries and 28 companies. Hamon fingered Spanghero as a major culprit.
In a separate development, three men were arrested Thursday in Britain on suspicion of fraud at two meat plants.
