BEIJING – China's government has issued a sweeping promise to narrow the politically volatile gulf between its rich and poor with measures including reining in pay for executives at state companies.
The pledge issued late Tuesday gave few details but promised more spending on education, job training and social programs.
Chinese leaders have promised repeatedly to spread prosperity to the country's poor majority but detailed commitments have been delayed by disputes over how politically favored companies and other factions would be affected.
