Authorities allow family of Chen Guangcheng's nephew to see him for first time in 9 months

Family members have been able to see Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng's nephew for the first time since he was detained nine months ago after his uncle's escape from house arrest.

Chen Kegui was convicted in November of attacking officials who stormed his house looking for his uncle and was sentenced to three years in prison. His family was barred from the trial. His father said Friday that he, his wife and his daughter-in-law saw Chen in Linyi prison in eastern Shandong province on Thursday. They were told their conversations would be monitored.

Chen Guangfu said his son told him he hadn't been tortured, but felt angry.

Chen Guangcheng is now living in New York. He says his nephew acted in self-defense after officials barged into his house and beat him.
