Government says Hugo Chavez recovering, no date for possible return to Venezuela

Venezuela's information minister says President Hugo Chavez is in good spirits and has been recovering six weeks after cancer surgery in Cuba.

Information Minister Ernesto Villegas says officials received an "encouraging report" about the president's health from Jorge Arreza, Chavez's son-in-law and science minister.

Villegas said after Tuesday's meeting that there is still no date for Chavez's return to Venezuela. The president underwent his fourth cancer-related operation in Havana on Dec. 11 and hasn't appeared or spoken publicly since.

Villegas says Chavez is showing strength during a "hard, complex" health struggle. The government has said Chavez is improving after suffering complications, including a severe respiratory infection.

Hours earlier, Bolivian President Evo Morales said Chavez is "receiving physical therapy" in Cuba so that he can return home.
