A United Nations refugee agency says more fighting has erupted in a Palestinian camp in Damascus between Syrian rebels and gunmen loyal to the regime.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees says fighting has intensified in the Yarmouk camp in recent days. On Thursday, 12 people were killed and 20 wounded.

Children were among the casualties, UNRWA said in a statement Friday.

The Yarmouk camp has been the scene of heavy clashes between rebels and regime loyalists since mid-December, when opposition fighters moved into the camp during an attempt to storm the capital.

UNRWA says about half of Yarmouk's 150,000 residents have fled the violence. Battles have included airstrikes and artillery shelling from the Syrian military, along with street clashes.
