HAMILTON, Bermuda – Bermuda's voters have ousted the political party that has ruled the wealthy British territory for 16 years.
Preliminary results released Tuesday show that the One Bermuda Alliance has ousted the Progressive Labor Party of Premier Paula Cox.
Cox also lost her seat in the House of Assembly, with One Bermuda Alliance claiming 19 of 36 seats for a two-seat majority. Cox accepted the defeat.
Opposition leader Craig Cannonier has said he will create 2,000 jobs in the next five years and generate more revenue while reducing debt.
More than 15,900 people voted for One Bermuda Alliance, while more than 14,200 people voted for the Progressive Labor Party.
