Insurgents kill 6, including 11-month-old girl, teachers, in attacks in southern Thailand

An 11-month-old baby is among six people who have been killed by suspected Islamist separatists in southern Thailand.

Police say four people were killed and another four wounded Tuesday in a drive-by shooting at a teashop in Narathiwat province. The dead included the baby girl, while the wounded included a 10-month old boy.

Police said the shop may have been targeted because the owner is a local official.

Five attackers shot dead a principal and a teacher at a school in a separate incident in neighboring Pattani province.

More than 5,000 people have been killed in Thailand's Muslim-dominated southernmost provinces since an Islamist insurgency erupted in 2004. The dead include more than 150 teachers.
