The Paris prosecutor's office says a man and a woman have been arrested in southern France, suspected of links to an Islamic militant who killed Jewish schoolchildren and French paratroopers earlier this year.

The two were arrested Tuesday as part of the investigation into the attacks in March in and near the city of Toulouse, the prosecutor's office said. It gave no other details.

Frenchman Mohamed Merah's weeklong motorcycle shooting rampage left seven people dead. He was killed in a police shootout.

Merah was under loose surveillance by the country's security services, which have since acknowledged lapses and promised to tighten up procedures.
