A northern England woman who's had to shave since puberty is growing a beard and mustache for Movember.

Siobhain Fletcher, 36, suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome, a hormonal disorder that causes her to grow excessive facial hair, The Daily Mail reported.

The Staffordshire housewife has had to shave every other day to keep her face smooth, but decided to put away the razor this month to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer charities as part of Movember.

"If I can go out on the street with a beard or moustache for a month, then surely men who are experiencing health problems can go and get themselves tested for prostate or testicular cancer," Fletcher told the UK TV show "This Morning."

So far, she's collected more than $1,000 in donations.

Fletcher wasn't diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome until 2000 when she was trying to get pregnant.

But she told ABC News the excess facial hair started appearing as early as age 15 and eventually kept her housebound for five years.

Waxing and hair removal cream irritate her sensitive skin, and laser treatments are too expensive. Electrolysis has largely proved ineffective, Fletcher told The Daily Mail.
