Authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands are investigating the death of the daughter of the late artist Willem de Kooning.
Johanna Liesbeth de Kooning died at her home on the island of St. John. The 56-year-old known as Lisa also lived in East Hampton, New York. Virgin Islands police spokeswoman Melody Rames said Tuesday the major crimes division is investigating the death, but that does not necessarily mean it will turn into a criminal case. Rames said authorities must still determine the cause of death and confirm the circumstances.
An unidentified male who was at her home told police she collapsed around 2:30 a.m. Friday and had been drinking wine. She had no vital signs when Paramedics arrived. She was the only child of the abstract-expressionist artist.
