Police find tortured, bound bodies of 4; shooting leaves 5 dead in northern Mexican state

Authorities in northern Mexico say the tortured and bound bodies of four men have been found in an isolated mountainous region of narrow, sharp-curved roads. Five other people have been killed in a shooting in a nearby city also in the border state of Chihuahua.

The prosecutor's office of the state says the four men were shot before they were abandoned along a highway near Creel, a town known as the heart of Tarahumara indigenous group. Police found the bodies on Monday, two days after eight bodies were found also tortured and shot in another part of the state.

Officials also say four men and a woman were shot dead at a convenience store in Chihuahua state's capital, of the same name.

The victims were flower vendors, authorities said Monday.
