Libya's interim president says he is against any foreign intervention in Syria or the arming of the opposition.
Mohammed al-Megarif, the head of Libya's parliament, spoke Thursday in a press conference with Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, laying out their joint positions on Syria against foreign interference.
Both called for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down.
Al-Megarif said they were withholding recognition of the new Syrian opposition coalition until they could evaluate how representative it was.
The rebels that overthrew Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi last year were backed by NATO airstrikes as well as supplied by sophisticated weapons from friendly countries.
The uprising in Syria, however, has not received similar international support.
