Indian media say police in Mumbai have arrested two women who posted a comment on Facebook criticizing the shutdown of India's financial hub for the funeral of a powerful Hindu fundamentalist politician.

The Press Trust of India news agency says the women were released on bail Monday after their arrest for complaining in the post about the closing of shops and transportation after the death of rightwing leader Bal Thackeray.

Analysts said the unusual arrests were a move by police to prevent any outbreak of violence by Thackeray's supporters.

The girl withdrew her comment and apologized, but angry supporters ransacked her uncle's orthopedic clinic in a Mumbai suburb.

Shops and offices were closed and taxis went off the roads Sunday as more than 1.5 million people attended Thackeray's funeral.
