The remains of Salvador Allende's vice president, Jose Toha, have been reburied in an emotional ceremony in Chile's capital following an official autopsy that found he was murdered and did not commit suicide nearly four decades ago.
Toha's daughter Carolina, a leftist politician who served as spokeswoman for President Michelle Bachelet and was just elected mayor of Santiago, led other family members in restoring his flag-draped coffin to the family's crypt on Monday in the city's general cemetery.
Gen. Augusto Pinochet's military government said Toha committed suicide by hanging himself with his belt in the closet of his hospital room. The family never believed it because he was taller than the closet railing. His body was exhumed and the coroner's office determined it was murder.
