Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah is set to undergo back surgery next week, a state news agency reported Sunday, according to Reuters.
Abdullah, 80, has had previous operations to tighten ligaments around his vertebra.
It is unclear whether Abdullah will remain in charge of Saudi Arabia during the treatment. The oil-rich nation and U.S. ally holds more than a fifth of world petroleum reserves, Reuters reports.
