HARARE, Zimbabwe – Lawyers for three human rights activists arrested on allegations of painting graffiti to support the Zimbabwe prime minister's party say they have been released on bail.
Lizwe Jamela, attorney for the three members of a civic organization that provides medical and counseling services to victims of violence and torture, said Friday the activists were ordered by a Bulawayo magistrate to pay $100 bail. They will reappear in court on Dec. 6.
The activists were arrested Monday in the capital, Harare, and accused of painting "MDC is it" on the outer wall of a library in Bulawayo, the country's second largest city.
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, is in a fragile coalition brokered by regional leaders with President Robert Mugabe after violent and disputed elections in 2008.
