KHARTOUM, Sudan – Sudan's news agency says doctors are releasing the nation's president from a hospital in Saudi Arabia after minor surgery.
SUNA said Wednesday that President Omar al-Bashir will recuperate in his Riyadh residence "for a short period." The agency said earlier that al-Bashir had a vocal cords problem.
Media reports last month said al-Bashir also underwent vocal cord surgery in Qatar.
He has been indicted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide for his role in the war in the Sudanese region of Darfur. As a result, al-Bashir is a pariah in most of the world, though he is welcome in Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Al-Bashir, 68, is Sudan's longest serving president. He came to power in a 1989 military coup.
