The Dominican nanny accused of killing two young children she cared for allegedly woke up from her the medically induced coma, the New York Post is reporting.

Yoselyn Ortega, who allegedly stabbed two children, 2-year-old Leo and a 6-year-old Lucia Krim, before slashing her own throat, woke up and is “talking a little,” the Post is reporting. It’s unclear whether Ortega has been charged in the deaths.

Ortega underwent surgery at a New York City hospital, and was questioned by police. But she evidently has hired a lawyer and won’t answer questions. She did speak to her doctor, however, and asked about her family, the Post said.

Ortega, a naturalized citizen, was caring for the kids last Thursday in a posh Upper West Side apartment when she suddenly “snapped” and killed the children, her family has told the media. The mother of the children, Marina Krim, had taken her other daughter to a swim class when she returned to the apartment and found the three bleeding in her bathroom.

Marina Krim, her husband Kevin, a CNBC executive, and their 3-year-old daughter, Nessie, have been holed in a New York hotel since the stabbings. Kevin Krim sent close friends a text last Friday thanking everyone for their concern.

“Nessie woke up this morning and is doing fine,” he wrote. “We’re obviously heartbroken.”

Ortega had been living with her sister and her son, Jesus, 17. She had been intubated since last Thursday. Her family in the Dominican Republic have said they cannot comprehend what happened to her.

“This isn’t the Yoselyn we know,” he sister told the New York Daily News. “She loved these children like her own.”
