14 killed found inside cars in 2 Mexico regions

Authorities in Mexico say 14 people have been killed in two regions where rival drug cartels are battling for turf control.

Prosecutors in the northern state of Tamaulipas say seven men were found mutilated inside two vehicles parked outside a shopping mall in the border city of Nuevo Laredo. The truck and the SUV containing the bodies had Texas license plates, according to a news statement late Sunday.

In the western state of Michoacan, the state attorney general's office said the charred corpses of seven people were found inside a burned car. Police have not identified the victims found Sunday in the town of Yurecuaro, near the border with Jalisco state.

Authorities have mentioned a connection between the two attacks. Different drug gangs are fighting in those regions.
