EU mission members attacked in Kosovo north

A European Union mission in Kosovo says masked assailants have fired at its convoy, wounding a Kosovo policeman.

The EU Rule of Law mission in Kosovo says the attack took place Friday near the town of Zubin Potok as a group of officers were going to work.

The statement says the policeman, who was escorting the EU officers, was lightly wounded. It says two vehicles also were damaged in the attack.

Kosovo's north is tense because the Serbs who live there have refused to recognize Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia. The Serbs also have rejected the authority of Kosovo's central government.

Serbia lost control over its former province after 1989-99 war and has vowed never to recognize it as a new country.
