LONDON – The British government says its foreign minister has discussed the case of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with Ecuadorean Vice President Lenin Moreno in London.
Officials gave few details, and there was no evidence the two nations were any closer to reaching a deal over Assange, whose decision to seek asylum at Ecuador's embassy in London has sparked a roughly two-month-long diplomatic standoff.
The U.K. wants to extradite Assange to Sweden for questioning on sex crimes allegations which he denies. Ecuador angered Britain by granting asylum to the founder of the secret-spilling website. But now Assange is stuck inside the embassy, and British police have vowed to arrest him the moment he leaves.
Moreno, who uses a wheelchair, was in London for the Paralympic Games, which kick off Wednesday.
