Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will participate in a commemoration of the War of 1812 when they visit Canada later this month as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Minister of Heritage James Moore said Friday that the royal couple will attend the event in Toronto during their May 20-23 visit.

The pair are to arrive in Saint John, Newfoundland, and depart from Regina, Saskatchewan.

Moore says the two will also present Diamond Jubilee medals to Canadians and attend a citizenship ceremony for new citizens.

This will be Charles' 16th visit to Canada and Camilla's second. They last visited in 2009.

Queen Elizabeth II is Canada's titular head of state.
