Investigators say the shooting of the CEO of a nuclear engineering company bears similarities to attacks by the radical leftist Red Brigades terrorist group against executives of the same company in the 1970s.
Roberto Adinolfi was shot in the leg on Monday morning near his Genoa home by an unknown assailant. He was recovering in the hospital Tuesday.
He is CEO of Ansaldo Nuclear, a division of the state-controlled Finmeccanica company.
No claim of responsiblity has been received.
Italian news reports quoted prosecutor Nicola Piacente as saying Tuesday that the attack was "analogous" to Red Brigade attacks in the 1970s against Ansaldo executives: at least three Ansaldo employees were attacked in those years, in which the Red Brigades terrorized Italy.
