LONDON -- A headless and limbless body found in an east London canal has been formally identified as "EastEnders" actress Gemma McCluskie, Sky News reported Friday.

McCluskie's brother, Tony, reportedly has been arrested in connection with her disappearance last week although police have not formally identified the 35-year-old man they have in custody.

McCluskie, 29, lived with her brother in Bethnal Green, east London, and he helped organize a search after she disappeared, including putting up posters, The (London) Times reported.

The body was discovered near a stretch of Regent's Canal in Hackney Tuesday afternoon.

McCluskie starred in the long-running British soap "EastEnders" as Kerry Skinner in 2001, appearing in more than 30 episodes.

After she vanished, co-stars Natalie Cassidy and Brooke Kinsella both appealed for help finding her.
