A convicted sex offender who fled the U.S. for Scotland was jailed for 42 months Monday after he reportedly admitted to sexually assaulting another young girl.
John Nicoll, 30, served two years in a North Carolina prison and was placed on a national sex offenders registry after he broke into a 10-year-old girl's home in 2004 and sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping, the Scottish Daily Record reported.
Upon his release in 2008, Nicoll used his dual citizenship to flee to Scotland to live with his father in Perth.
Authorities in the U.K., concerned Nicoll might repeat his crimes, won an application to have his U.S. sex offender status adopted in the UK -- a legal ruling that was reportedly unprecedented -- according to multiple reports.
But before the order was granted, Nicoll attacked a 13-year-old girl at his home in Perth in July 2009 after plying the child and her friends with alcohol. Authorities reportedly learned of the sexual assault after the girl came forward in 2010.
On Monday, a Scottish court sentenced Nicoll to 27 months for the sex attack and 15 months for showing up at a court hearing with a lock knife.
