MOTALA, Sweden -- Two aspiring army officers built a horror dungeon decorated with bones, feces and animal guts in a bid to scare younger trainees at a military training center in Sweden, Aftonbladet reported Wednesday.
The two trainee officers built an altar using the skeletal remains of animals, smeared with what appeared to be animal guts, vomit and feces, in a relaxation area at an army academy just outside Motala, southern Sweden, in December.
Staff discovered the chamber of horrors and reported it to authorities before any of the younger trainees saw it, the head of the center, Col. Mikael Claesson, told the newspaper.
"This is a totally short-sighted and foolish prank. It is completely stupid, and I do not in any circumstance condone that sort of behavior," Claesson said. "They have told me that it was a case of student humor. A boyish prank. They have expressed their deepest regret to me in person, and they know that what they did was inappropriate."
The two men were reprimanded and ordered to have 72 kronor ($11) docked from their pay for 10 days as punishment.
