PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea-- Australian media are reporting that a plane carrying 32 people has crashed in the wilds of Papua New Guinea and there are fatalities.

Australian Broadcasting Corp. says an Airlines PNG Dash 8 aircraft crashed Thursday while flying between the towns of Lae and Madang on the South Pacific island nation's north coast.

The spokesman of the country's Accident Investigation Commission Sid O'Toole told ABC that 32 people were aboard and there are reports of casualties.
