GALVESTON, Texas – Authorities were searching Sunday for a man who jumped into the Gulf of Mexico from a Carnival cruise ship, KHOU-TV reported.
The 39-year-old man, whose identity was not released, jumped from the Carnival Conquest at around 6:30pm local time Friday after it left Cozumel, Mexico, Carnival said in a statement.
The ship's crew notified authorities and returned to the location where the man was last seen to begin searching for him, the company said.
Mexican authorities took over search and rescue operations and released the Carnival ship.
The cruise ship left Galveston, Texas on Sept. 18 and was scheduled to return Sunday.
