Guatemala: Massacre work of Mexico drug gang Zetas

The Guatemalan government says a massacre of 29 ranch workers in a rural province near the Mexican border was the work of the Zetas drug gang.

Interior Minister Carlos Menocal says the style and manner of the killings implicates the Mexican-based cartel, which has been fighting local drug gangs for territory in northern Guatemala.

Most of the 29 were decapitated. A message in blood on a wall said the killers were after ranch owner Otto Salguero.

Menocal said Monday that authorities are investigating Salguero, whose whereabouts are unknown.

Two children and two women are among the dead. It is one of the worst massacres since the end of Guatemala's 36-year civil war in 1996.
