An Indonesian court has sentenced an Australian man to 18 years in jail for smuggling 2 kilograms (4 pounds) of crystal methamphetamine to the resort island of Bali.
Forty-three-year-old Michael Sacatides was arrested at Bali's international airport in October after arriving on a flight from Thailand. Police found the drug in his luggage.
In its verdict Monday, the Denpasar District Court also gave Thai boxing trainer Sacatides a $116,000 fine.
He had told the court he had borrowed the suitcase from a friend in Bangkok and had no knowledge of the drugs.
Indonesia has extremely strict drug laws and convicted smugglers are often executed.
